Freaky

By Rex Goode

I bought my first car when I was 18 years old, shortly after I graduated from high school. I know that was fairly late for most people, but I did not learn how to drive until after high school. My parents didn’t have money for lessons and I couldn’t take them at school. My father didn’t have the patience to teach me.

My First CarAfter I got my first job, I paid for lessons and learned to drive. I went looking around at used car lots and found this 1957 Buick Special. The color was awful. It was brownish pink.

It wasn’t in very good shape. I wasn’t any good at taking care of a car. I pretty much drove it into the ground. It lasted just a few months.

I named it Freaky. I got the name from a cereal package. There was a brand of cereal once in the seventies called Freakies. They were odd-shaped, corn-based pieces, kind of like Cap’n Crunch. I liked them. I named my car after them.

The idea of naming your car sounds like it has theraputic value. Very interesting. Great post!
